Johannes Brahms' Begeisterung für die ungarische Musik kam durch seinen Freund, den ungarischen Geiger Eduard Remény, mit dem Brahms auch gerne auf Konzertreisen ging. Bei den Philharmonix ist der Kontrabassist Ödön Rácz, der einer Zigeuner-Familie entstammt, für die ungarische Traditionsmusik zuständig. In diesem Ensemble bringt jeder seine Begabung, seine Interessen ein, auch die Herkunft der Musiker spielt beim Philharmonix-Musikmix eine Rolle. Sowohl Daniel Ottensamer als auch Stephan Koncz haben z. B. halb österreichischen, halb ungarischen Hintergrund. Der Geiger Noah Bendix-Balgley kommt aus dem jüdischen Elternhaus, sein Vater ist Spezialist für osteuropäische jüdische Volkstänze. All diese Zutaten fließen also hier ein: Swing, Klezmer, Latin, Pop, Volkstümliches. Und immer wieder unvergessene Klassik-Evergreens. On the 115th birthday of Miklós Rózsa, here’s the 2nd and 3rd movement of his beautiful Sonata for 2 violins Op. 15, performed by yours truly and my wife Yao Shanshan in March 2021 at the stunning Palais Lichtenau in Potsdam, Germany. Rózsa was an underrated composer who wrote many classical works and film scores including a violin concerto written for Jascha Heifetz (!), championed in his wonderful recording with the Dallas Symphony and Walter Hendl.
